Texas continues to tally jobs, and the unemployment rate in Dallas continues to tick downward.
The Texas Workforce Commission reported Friday the state has added 383,100 jobs over the past 12 months the largest increase in nearly 17 years, tacking on 56,400 in May alone. That has brought the state’s unemployment rate down to 5.1 percent.
Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington registered a 5 percent unemployment rate for May, and has been consistently lower than the state rate. The Dallas-Plano-Irving metro, as well as Fort Worth-Arlington registered rates of 5.1 percent, equal to state figures.
Industries adding the most jobs over the last month include education and health services, mining and logging, trade, transportation and utilities.
“It is good news for job seekers when Texas industries grow across the board,” said Ronny Congleton, TWC commissioner representing labor.
